The Prince of Peace

Unto us a child is born,

Unto us a son is given;

God has taken human form,

And laid aside His throne in heaven.

His name shall be called Wonderful,

Eternal Father, Prince of Peace,

The Mighty God, and Counselor;

His government shall never cease.

And He, the eternal Son of God,

Shall reign at last on David’s throne

Forever; and forevermore

Judgment and justice shall be shown.

But O, tonight a mother holds

Within her arms the King of kings,

And lulls her babe to rest, Beneath

The shadow of an angel’s wings.

The cattle murmur through the night,

But Mary hears the voice instead

Of him who brought the tidings first,

And calls Him Jesus, as he said;

Still marveling at the matchless love

Of God that gives till all is given

And God takes flesh in which to die

That sinful men may be forgiven.
