A Teacher’s Prayer

Fill my needy heart, O Lord, with prayer

That as I teach these little ones to pray

It be not sounding brass unto Thine ears,

But heart-petition brought to Thee each day,

So vital, and so much a party of me

That as I teach them, they true prayer may see.

Lord, prove Thyself to me in prayer each day,

That Samuel, who talked with God alone,

Be not the only example I can give,

Or Moses, who met God when he was grown;

But make me ready, for my heart, to say,

“Here is what God has done for me, today.”
