“Call Him Jesus”

What does the name of Jesus mean to you?

There is no sweeter name since time began.

The angel said to Joseph, “Call Him Jesus.”

That was His name before He became man.

That name which is “above all other names”

All knees shall some day bow in earth and heaven

Before the only name given among men

By which we can be saved, redeemed, forgiven.

Mary and Joseph marveled at His birth;

Their hearts were full of God the Father’s word,

The shepherds marveled too, for angels said

“Today is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord.”

The wise men fell before Him, for they knew

This was no ordinary little boy,

But this was He of whom the prophets spoke,

And kneeling down they brought their gifts with joy.

He came into a world that He had made.

His life did not begin at Bethlehem;

One with the Father through eternity,

He came to give His Life for sinful men.

He came into a world that knew Him not,

They could not understand, did not believe.

What does He mean to you? Is He your life,

Your hope, your future, you who Christ receive?

Let’s search our hearts anew at Christmastime

When round the globe they speak of how He came,

And yield our hearts and lives to Him anew -

Jesus, that dear and sweet melodious Name.
