In The Shadow of His Hand

We must all go through the shadow;

Were we always in the sun

We would surely droop and wither

Ere the scorching day was done.

Many plants will only blossom

In the coolness of the shade,

And ‘tis not by constant sunshine

That God’s greatest saints are made.

We would never fear or tremble

At the things His love has planned,

If we only would remember

‘Tis the shadow of His hand!

Night and day, they both are needed

In His purpose divine;

Were our lives made all of daylight,

Would we know how stars can shine?

(Isaiah 49:2)
