Long, Long Ago

God Who made the earth and heaven

Long, long ago,

Longed that men might be forgiven,

His love to know.

We were sinners every one

And to the Father could not come

Until in love He sent His Son,

Long, long ago.

Born a baby in a manger,

Long, long ago;

To the earth He’d made, a stronger:

Few seemed to know

He who slumbered in the hay

Would die upon the cross some day

To wash the sins of men away,

Long, long ago.

O, what joy to be a shepherd,

Long, long ago,

There to kneel and praise the Saviour,

His smile to know;

Still, I know He’ll come again,

Great King upon a throne to reign,

And I shall kneel to praise His Name

Like men long ago.
