Spring Is Here!

Tiny crocuses, purple and yellow,

Grow by my door and fill me with cheer;

After the dullness and brown of the winter

They tell me that Spring is finally here.

Then will come hyacinths, dainty and fragile,

Daffodils golden to brighten the day,

And when tulips follow in riots of color,

We know that summer must be on its way.

Robins are everywhere, welcoming springtime,

Yellow forsythia blends with the sun,

Then honeysuckle, so sweet to the nostrils,

Settles all doubt that summer has begun.

Blossoming fruit trees, competing in fragrance,

Tall stately peonies join the display,

Daylilies follow the royal procession,

And soon the roses will be on their way.

Lord, did I grumble when winter was dreary?

If it were not, could I feel this delight?

Could I remember that sun follows showers,

Spring follows winter, and day follows night?
