Tell Them - Today!

How brief is life on earth,

A few short years at best;

Today we meet and greet our friends,

Tomorrow lay to rest,

And all the flowers we bring

In no wise can repay

The thoughtful deeds we meant to do,

Words we forgot to say.

The heartache that we caused,

Our tears will never heal,

Ah, could we only tell them now

The deep remorse we feel.

And yet we had the chance

While they were in our sight,

Had we not been too full of pride

To go and make things right.

Oft’times, e’en through our tears

We look beyond the sky

And know our loved one waits with Christ

To greet us bye and bye;

We sorrow, yet with hope

That brings us inward peace.

We know they’ve just begun to live

The life that does not cease.

But have we told our friends,

How Jesus died to save?

We cannot tell them when we stand

Before a silent grave.

What grief to only “hope”

We’ll meet someday in Heaven,

That someone told them how Christ died

That they might be forgiven.

Today we have them here,

Tomorrow, who can say?

So tell them of His wondrous love,

His power to save, - today!
