The Parable Of The Seed

Heaven’s Kingdom is like a man

Who sowed good seed one day;

While men slept, came his enemy,

Sowed tares and went his way.

And when the blades grew straight and tall

Then also grew the weeds.

His servants came in grief and said,

“Didst thou not sow good seeds?

From whence then can these tares have come

That from the ground they spring?”

“An enemy,” the Master said,

“Hath done this wicked thing!”

“Then shall we go,” the servants asked,

“And root them up today?”

But “Nay” he said “lest while ye weed

Ye bear some wheat away.

Let both grow till the harvest comes,

The reapers shall discern:

The wheat they’ll bring into my barn,

The tares they’ll bind and burn.”

The Son of man is He that sowed

His good seed in the field.

The good seed are His children, with

A harvest rich to yield.

But His enemy the devil

Sows his children, friendly, sweet,

Side by side among the Christians,

Clever counterfeits of wheat.

In the end shall come the harvest,

And our God who knows the heart

Shall discern without an error

Those whom men knew not apart.

He shall cast into the fire

All the wicked sons of sin;

But His own He’ll take to glory,

There to live and reign with Him.
